Mercenary work is a common profession for combat minded Elites, this work is dangerous but also very lucrative. While the pay may not reach the same levels as say the UNJE or contracts with corporate entities and governments. the bar is often lower and there is much less public pressure to maintain a palatable public image. There is a great deal of freedom for some Elites to take this kind of work.

Elite mercenaries can choose their employers, where they work, and sometimes for how long they are willing to work. This also means that they do get plenty of time for downtime, if they wish but it really depends on the demands of the moment and the ambitions of the Elite. A career in mercenary work often means acting in a combat role, or working with dangerous research work. Essentially danger tends to be part and parcel of the mercenary lifestyle.

A subset of mercenary work is what is called War Proxy contracts, this is one part military contract another part entertainment. War Proxys tend to engage in combat maneuvers against elite squads or another Elite in a combat mission away from populated areas. These contracts are some of the most lucrative in the mercenary world, though usually reserved for experienced mercenaries who have proven their success and reliability.

Elites engaged in proxy wars are one part combatant and another part showman, it’s a modern form of arena combat but usually without the lethality though deaths can happen. Victory usually means fame and wealth and bragging rights in the merc world, the government or corporate entity gets their objective and warfare is avoided. Elite mercenaries can become celebrities but are often of a lower echelon than the heroes working for governments and the UNJE.
